What is Gua Sha Massage?
Gua Sha is a millennia-old massage and detoxification method from Traditional Chinese Medicine. The term is composed of “Gua” (Chinese for “scraping”) and “Sha” (“acute illness”). With the help of a specially shaped stone, specific skin areas are gently scraped to activate reflex zones and so-called meridians. According to TCM, meridians are channels through which the life energy Chi flows.
Modern Gua Sha facial massage is much gentler than traditional body treatments. The stone is guided over the skin with light pressure, moving from the center of the face outwards and from bottom to top. For particularly sensitive facial skin, we have developed the Vegan Facial Dry Brush: its extra-soft bristles are made from 100% plant-based cellulose (wood-based), making it completely vegan and plastic-free. The Ionic Facial Dry Brush goes a step further: its ultra-fine copper bristles generate negatively charged ions when rubbed, which neutralize free radicals and give the skin a particularly intense energy boost. The copper face brush is based on a tradition of medieval monastic brushes used by monks and nuns to combat fatigue and pain. Gua Sha Instructions: How to Massage Correctly
Gua Sha facial massage is simple and takes only a few minutes. First, cleanse your face and apply a few drops of facial oil. Then, gently guide the stone with light pressure from the center of your face outwards. Repeat each stroke three to five times on each half of your face.
- Eye Area: Use the tips of the Gua Sha, place it in the inner corner of your eye, and stroke with light pressure towards your temples.
- Cheeks and Chin: Use the wide, inwardly curved side, start at the chin and stroke upwards towards the hairline. Move to the mouth and nose and stroke towards the ears.
- Forehead: Place the stone in the middle of your forehead and stroke horizontally to the temples and upwards to the hairline.
- Neck: Use the wide, outwardly curved end and stroke slowly upwards from the base of the neck towards the chin.
